Where did the openoffice.org language packs go ?

Is it just me, or you can’t get language packs from the openoffice.org website? I couldn’t even find them in the extension packs.

I know the code and files are outthere since, the Linux distributions continue to create such packages for their users, but why can I get the files from the official website (e.g. for windows users)?

I’d like to get the official openoffice.org version in English, and to add to it the Hebrew language pack (e.g. interface translation) – why should I redownload the whole software again just for the language pack?

At least you can find language packs on the extended mirror sites listed here: http://distribution.openoffice.org/mirrors#mirrors

For the 3.0 release just go to ../extended/3.0.0rc4/

installing a full Hebrew language support:

System –> Administration –> Language Support
      then in the next window:
      –> Install/Remove Languages…
      then in the next window:
–> Hebrew (and here I added everything I could, Translations, Spellchecking and writing aids, Extra fonts)

Now I can type and indent and everything is just as I like it.

      Hope I helped.

      • Thanks for the comment, but adding windows’ language support doesn’t solve OO.org languages packs issue.

The coming version (OO.org 3.3.0) will include languages pack for Hebrew.

  2. Maybe you can try the go-oo site? They have a Windows version as well and with the added patches in the go-oo variant of OO.o it somewhat works better than the stock OO.o, especially interoperability with MS Office docs.

  3. instructions “getting Hebrew language pack for windows”
(in case you got an English OpenOffice)

the instructions are in Hebrew (including capture screen shots)

    Thanks Quest.

    1. Any idea why they are all for version 2.3.1 and not something updated?
    2. The updated files exists in the location Joost explained (this is probably the master for the mirrors).
    3. This page isn’t easily accessible from the main website or main wiki pages.
