  1. You might want to look at https://www.mirbsd.org/cvs.cgi/www/mk/inc2rss and the other files in the www module (specifically, Makefile, mk/parser, mk/htsconv, data/*).

  2. One should note that many programming languages offer APIs for generating RSS/Atom feeds. For Perl, there is the XML::RSS family of modules ( I should note that I maintain XML::RSS now), and also XML::Feed, which can generate, and mix and match both RSS and Atom feeds.

    Using such open-source APIs may prove to be easier than generating RSS using print statements.
